Important Tax Season Information for Clients

Below is a list of key topics to guide existing and new clients through a smooth tax season. Our white-glove service and commitment to our customers means we will take care of all your tax season needs once materials are delivered to us. Please review the following information to ensure you have all your materials ready and we'll take it from there! 

Key 2025 Filing Deadlines

  • January 29, 2025 – IRS opens e-file system for individual tax returns

  • April 15, 2025 – Individual Form 1040 filings and payments due (unless you live in a federally extended disaster area)

  • April 15, 2025 – Deadline for IRA and HSA contributions for tax year 2024

  • September 15, 2025 – Partnership & S-Corp returns on extension due

  • October 15, 2025 – Personal returns on extension due

What We Need From You

To prepare your return accurately and efficiently, please gather the following documents:

Income Documents

  • W-2s from all employers

  • 1099-NEC (contract income), 1099-MISC, 1099-K

  • 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, year-end brokerage statements

  • K-1s from partnerships, S-corps, estates, and trusts

  • Rental income summaries

  • Social Security statements (SSA-1099)

  • Unemployment 1099-G

Deduction & Credit Support

  • Mortgage interest (Form 1098)

  • Property tax receipts

  • Charitable donation receipts (note: appraisals required for non-cash donations over $5,000)

  • Medical expenses summary

  • Affordable Care Act information (Form 1095-A)

  • Education expenses (Form 1098-T)

  • Childcare expenses with provider EIN

  • Retirement contributions (IRA, SEP, SIMPLE)

  • New for 2025: Car Loan Interest Credit (provided by auto lender for customers with qualifying vehicles)

Business Owners & Self-Employed

  • Profit & Loss statement

  • Mileage logs

  • Major equipment purchases (Section 179/bonus depreciation eligible)

  • Payroll reports

  • Estimated tax payments made

Refund Timing & IRS Processing Updates

  • Most refunds are issued within 21 days of e-file acceptance

  • Refunds with EITC or ACTC typically do not release until mid-February

  • Where’s My Refund?” is available via IRS.gov and updates daily​​

  • Connecticut Taxpayers may check their refund status by creating an account on the CT Department of Revenue's MyConneCT page

Tips for a Smooth Tax Season

  • Double-check Social Security numbers for all dependents

  • Check your mail for IRS Identity Protection PIN, if applicable

  • Track estimated tax payments accurately

  • Report all digital payment platform income (PayPal/Venmo/etc.)
