Important 2024 Tax Dates

The IRS has outlined the following crucial deadlines for the upcoming tax season:

  • January 16, 2024: Fourth quarter estimated payments due for tax year 2023.

  • January 23, 2024: IRS begins accepting tax returns.

  • January 31, 2024: Employers must mail W-2 forms.

  • April 15, 2024: Tax Day/federal returns and payments due, final day for 401k contributions, final day to file an extension.

  • October 15, 2024: Late filing deadline.

State Tax Deadlines

State tax filing and payment due dates vary by state. Consult your state's Department of Revenue for the latest information.

Tax Deadlines for Independent Contractors, Consultants, and the Self-Employed

The last quarterly estimate deadline for Q4 2023 is January 16, 2024. Subsequent quarterly deadlines are as follows:

  • Q1 2024: April 15, 2024

  • Q2 2024: June 17, 2024

  • Q3 2024: September 16, 2024

  • Q4 2024: January 15, 2025

  • Small Business Filing Deadlines:

  • Sole Proprietors: April 15, 2024 (Extension until Oct. 15, 2024)

  • Partnerships: March 15, 2024 (Extension until Sept. 16, 2024)

  • Multimember LLCs: March 15, 2024 (Extension until Sept. 16, 2024)

  • S-Corps: March 15, 2024 (Extension until Sept. 16, 2024)

Federal Tax Return Extension

File an extension by April 15, 2024, for more time to submit your 2023 tax return. Note: Extension provides time to file, not to pay.

Tax Deadline for Expats

If filing as a U.S. citizen or resident abroad or in the military overseas, an automatic two-month filing extension applies. The deadline to file is June 17, 2024.

IRA Contribution Deadline
